|
| A lively, dramatic samba for 1 player (xylophone and 2 tom toms) with wind ensemble accompaniment. Introductory arpeggio "question and answer" themes lead into a rolled melody on xylophone. A percussive section in the middle preludes the long and exciting final crescendo which culminates in a short cadenza before the snappy finish. Ensemble percussion parts play an important role in the piece, (snare drum/ cymbal/ glockenspiel/ cowbell/castanets, 3 timpani (pedals) and snare drum/tom tom) adding both extra sound colour and drive. |
